We are retracing the deflationary spiral that Japan innaugrated its 10-year modern depression with in 1990.  As a nation, we are simply bankrupt and the subprime loan debacle illuminates the absence of enough legitimate banking to keep our overdrawn credit beast fed.  Popular belief is that the government can fix anything but it's not true this time around.  Yes Virginia depressions can still happen.
